Scouts of America Merit Badge Class
The Los Angeles Railroad Heritage Foundation hosts a Scouts of America Merit Badge Class in downtown Los Angeles multiple times a year. Classes are designed to teach Scouts about railroad history, contemporary operations and careers, and -- most importantly -- safety. Professionals from Metro, Union Pacific and BNSF Railway assist with teaching classes. Our goal is that with this class under their belts, Scouts can be proactive leaders in the community in regards to train safety.
The Merit Badge Class is located on the 3rd floor of the Los Angeles MTA building, east of Union Station. Following a morning of classroom study, Scouts ride the Metro Gold Line to Del Mar station in Pasadena, site of the historic Santa Fe depot.
Due to COVID19 restrictions, we are now hosting this online class via ZOOM.
We will soon be receiving submissions for the next online Zoom classes for Fall 2020.
This class date will be announced by August 1st, 2020.
If your Scout is unable to attend an online Zoom class, we can also send a video link of the recorded class. Your Scout will still be able to receive their blue card for attending a Zoom class and a pre-recorded class. We recommending attending a Zoom class to allow for their questions to be answered in real time.

Registration has not officially open for the Fall 2020 classes.
If you submit your application after registration closes, you will be put on a waiting list for the next class. Classes are held multiple times a year.
The Merit Badge Class includes a workbook, morning snack, Spikes handout, a pre-loaded TAP card, and a voucher for free parking. Classes are announced 1 month before each date and typically fill up far in advance. We’re grateful to Metro, Union Pacific and BNSF Railway for supporting this popular program.
