Scouts of America Merit Badge Class
Three times each year, the Los Angeles Railroad Heritage Foundation hosts a Scouts of America Merit Badge Class in downtown Los Angeles. Classes are designed to teach Scouts about railroad history, contemporary operations and careers, and -- most importantly -- safety. Professionals from Metro, Union Pacific and BNSF Railway assist with teaching classes. Our goal is that with this class under their belts, Scouts can be proactive leaders in the community in regards to train safety.
We are currently receiving submissions for the next class on March 28, 2020. Scroll down and click the Metro train photo for a slideshow of the October class.
The Merit Badge Class is located on the 3rd floor of the Los Angeles MTA building, east of Union Station. Following a morning of classroom study, Scouts ride the Metro Gold Line to Del Mar station in Pasadena, site of the historic Santa Fe depot.
Download a registration form here for full details, complete the form, and send it to LARHF.
Registration is officially closed for the March 28, 2020 class.
If you submit your application after registration closes, you will be put on a waiting list for the next class. Classes are held three times a year: spring, summer and fall.
The Merit Badge Class includes a workbook, morning snack, Spikes handout, a pre-loaded TAP card, and a voucher for free parking. Classes are announced 2-3 months before each date and typically fill up far in advance. We’re grateful to Metro, Union Pacific and BNSF Railway for supporting this popular program.
